How to study hard and stay healthy at the same time

Staying healthy is really important in maintaining your grades at a good level. Being healthy can help you increase your productivity and allows you to stay sane even during the toughest times. I have been trying to stay healthy and maintain my good grades for years and here is how I did it:

Put a jar of water or tea or healthy drinks you would like to drink with you in your room. And a cup too :) It’ll help you refresh your mind and really water just works its magic. Taking showers during some of my breaks really helps me stay calm and patient no matter how much work I had to do. Maybe go for a swim. It is really important to stay hydrated, not because you will be dehydrated if you don’t drink, but because its function is to cool you down. There are many apps out there that alert you every time you need to drink water and I find them really helpful

Exercising can be an excuse for you to treat yourself with the food you don’t normally eat(not everything though, you don’t want to overeat) so that makes you happy, and being happy makes studying/learning easier. Taking exercises don’t only keep you fit and in shape, but also makes you healthy in the long term. It is a really good habit to make and yes, it might be hard to keep up with the hard work, but the result will totally make you happy. Just like saving for your retirement, starting a habit like this at a young age will benefit you in the long term. I also like to think of sports as a way to keep you competitive as well, mentally and physically, so it really helps in school.

Do yoga or meditate or just relax. It is okay to relax sometimes and it is natural for us to relax already. You don’t want to stress yourself even more especially since the work stresses you already. It is okay to do yoga or meditate inside but I really do recommend you do it outside. Maybe at a park or somewhere with lots of trees because it can help you breathe. It really gets your brain off of your work. Going outside in general really helps me breathe.

By this, I mean read, watch a movie, or just have fun. Go out and about and I got to say, I learned more things by connecting with people. I learned a lot about the real world by watching the news and YouTube. As someone who rarely has time to have fun, watching movies, or even a short documentary is treasure so yes I consider them as something that makes me healthy. It is really mind-numbing to just work all day and not have fun at the end of the day. You are learning something by doing anything really.

It is always better to eat healthy than not. It is okay to treat yourself fast food once in a while though as long as you are not eating it every day. I like fast food once or twice in two weeks because eating it often makes me lazy. You can also try treating yourself as a kid if it’s really hard to make you healthy like giving yourself points for every time you eat healthy food so you can transfer it as a one time pass for fast food. Remember to just eat enough at the same time every day. You don’t want to overeat, make yourself feel lazy, and yes you can snack.

Try your best to not get distracted by social media or your phone or anything. It is hard to not go read a message every time you see a notification but just tell yourself to not touch it all. Instead, leave one time of a day to go read and use social media and do that at only that time. You can also try putting time limits on your phone apps by going to setting — screen time — add limits and adjust it to the way you’d like it to be. There are apps as well that help you limit screen time. It is ok to talk to your friends during your breaks or read a book. Just stay away from your phone because there is always something you need to do on your phone.

Keep yourself on schedule but also take breaks in between. My teacher once told me that people will only pay attention within 50 minutes so I apply that to my focus as well. Don’t try to push yourself to work or study for over 50 minutes because now you know why you can’t focus for so long. Study for 50 minutes and take a 10 minutes break. Practice this for one week and it will become your routine.

Remember to stay healthy even though you are thriving for success. We don’t want to work hard and fall ill halfway knowing that we have the potential to reach our goals but meeting an obstacle that can be solved with a different habit. Practice good habits and also remember to balance your life in every way possible.
