Tomorrow

There’s always some form of anticipation surrounding tomorrow.

Sometimes it shows up in the form of excitement. Sometimes it shows up in the form of anxiety.

But it’s always there.

Even when we read and hear (and perhaps even know) that the best thing for us to do in any given moment is to give our attention to that moment, tomorrow beckons.

Tomorrow I won’t have any more episodes of The West Wing to watch. I binged the entire series — all seven seasons — in the span of a shorter timespan than most sensible people would have done.

I just finished watching the final episode of the series before sending this your way. Fittingly, the episode’s title is “Tomorrow.”

The last lines of the episode feature a conversation between President Jed Bartlet and his wife, Abigail. As he gazes out of the window of the airplane taking them to their new home — and new lives — she asks him what he’s thinking about.

His reply? “Tomorrow.”

Make no mistake, tomorrow matters.

But right now today matters more.

Think about that as you go through the rest of today. I hope you make it a good one.
