Weight Loss Happens Between Your Ears First

Many people attempt weight loss by strict adherence to numbers and are missing the key step.

Eleven years ago when I first began this weight loss journey, I strictly adhered to the numbers. Numbers on the scale, numbers on the food I ate, and numbers wherever I could find them. I successfully lost weight and within seven years of starting had shed over eighty pounds.

Then stress began to eat away at my life as I was in a employment position with a supervisor I abhorred. As the stress at my job increased, little bits of weight came on me.

I didn’t really think anything about it because I was still running and finishing ultra-marathons. I was still in pretty good shape for an over fifty year old man and I could hide the weight loss pretty well.

Along came 2020 and I won’t even go into what a year this was. For me, I finally escaped the job situation, but it required a move across the country during the height of the pandemic. Relocating, finding a new house, beginning a new career brought with it lots of bad habits. The eighty pounds I had lost shrunk to about fifty pounds before I finally decided to do something about it.

My goal wasn’t just to get to a particular weight. That was definitely a desire, but not the goal. No, the goal was to change habits and form new habits that I could follow without having to constantly have a scale and calculator nearby.

That’s when I discovered I had been approaching this battle all wrong. The victory in the battle for great life-long health started between my ears. It started with re-programming the methods with which I approached food and general overall health.
